Transformation in pool construction boosts sustainability
By extending the Salinarium in Bad Dürkheim, 4a Architekten have demonstrated how an existing leisure pool can be developed further through careful extension – while remaining open for business. The new thermal pool area with its sauna facilities has been carefully integrated into the existing structures of the spa gardens, leisure pool and outdoor pool, significantly enhancing the complex’s architectural quality.
The new entrance area already embodies this ambition: a widely projecting roof creates a clear focal point and guides visitors into the newly organised entrance area. From the changing rooms, users are guided along an elongated access corridor into the thermal spa building at the rear. This passage deliberately highlights the transition from the lively leisure pool to the more tranquil thermal spa world. The artistic installation by Ricarda Mieth entitled ‚Wellengang‘ gives this path a distinctive atmosphere and lends it its own dramatic quality.
